Online event on “Educational Equity in Digital Game Worlds”
Thursday 12th & Friday 13th of May 2022.
Digital Game Worlds are becoming increasingly present in our society. Video games open up a rich world of experiences that facilitate the expansion of our skills, support the celebration of our successes, and allow us to fail without consequences. The educational sector has also been benefiting from such game worlds. But does education also become more equitable through games? Due to the COVID pandemic, a digitalization push has taken place in all education areas that threaten to exacerbate existing inequalities. Can easily accessible digital learning games provide a remedy?
These are the questions that the international joint project „EU-FairPlay“ is exploring during several events at various European locations. The project starts with an online kick-off event on the 12th and 13th of May 2022. The event is online and free of charge and offers interested parties from the fields of Education, Game Development and Media Education valuable insights into the development and educational use of digital games under the theme „Educational Equity in Digital Game Worlds„. Scientists and practitioners will report on current projects, present research findings and discuss the future challenges of digital game-based learning. The program will be complemented by the keynote from Dr. Sylvester Arnab (Professor of Game Science at the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, Coventry University).
The event is organized by the Chair of Psychology of Learning with Digital Media at the Chemnitz University of Technology, the Center for Open Digital Innovation and Participation (CODIP) at the Technische Universität Dresden, and the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology at the University of Tübingen.
Researchers participating at the event are affiliated to the following institutions: Disruptive Media Learning Lab (Coventry University, UK), Institute Competence Diagnostics (PH St. Gallen, Switzerland), Clinical Psychology (University of Innsbruck, Austria), Faculty of Education and Culture (Tampere University, Finland), Learning Sciences and Communication (LISEC; University of Strasbourg, France), School of Digital Technologies (Tallinn University, Estonia), School of Communication, Media & IT (Rotterdam University of Applied Science, The Netherlands), School for Communication, Media and IT (Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, The Netherlands). Some of the practice partners participating are: Netzwerk Medienpädagogik Sachsen, Fachstelle für Jugendmedienkultur NRW, Gamify Now!, game-Verband der deutschen Games-Branche e.V., Medienwelten.schule, Hector Children’s Academies of Baden-Württemberg, and Serious Games Society.
